Tips for prepare for spare parts:

1. A plan for every major component– whether to stock it, wait until needed to buy it, or to have it made (the decision is based on delivery and how critical the parts are).

2. A system for keeping an inventory of components-such as containers and stems, which are repaired and returned to inventory (in some plants, used parts are not included in the inventory records system).  Keep these on a PC for instant reference and record if the parts have been sent out for repair.

3. Regularly screening for and removal of obsolete parts.

4. Proper storage conditionsand occasional inspectionof spares. The following recommendations are offered for maintaining spare tools such as the container, liner, ram stem, dummy blocks, cylinders, etc.:

5. Maintain accurate drawings-for all tools, for purchase and inspection of repairs or replacements.

6. Inspect spare tools when received-(new or repaired) for condition and conformance to dimensions. 

 

In the course of the extrusion stem would accumulate inner stress, this stress will produce a certain fatigue crack when the stress is big enough, if its bear the non-axial radial force, and it will break. Therefore, after the cumulative operating time of extrusion stem reaches 4500h, you have better to do a stress relief treatment, kept temperature at 430 ~ 480 ?12h, then furnace cooling down to below 50 ?, it will be good for extrusion working life.
