How to select a suitable capacity model of aluminum extrusion press?
It need to consider the finial aluminum extrusion product, the dimension of aluminum extrusion product, production capacity and the product machining quality and accuracy.
Selection guidance of capacity model of aluminum extrusion press are following:
I. Selection based on finial aluminum extrusion product types:
1.1 For Architectural Aluminum Profiles:
Door and Window Profiles: Generally, this type of aluminum profile has relatively small dimensions and thin wall thicknesses, and doesn't require particularly high extrusion forces. Usually, extrusion machine models with an extrusion tonnage ranging from 600 (3.5inch)to 1,450 tons (6inch) can meet the production needs. For example, common household aluminum alloy door and window profiles are mostly produced using an extrusion machine with an extrusion tonnage of around 1000 tons (5inch), which can better ensure the shape, dimensional accuracy, and surface quality of aluminum profiles.
1.2 For Curtain Wall Profiles: Since curtain wall profiles often have larger dimensions, more complex structures, and some parts have thicker wall thicknesses, they require higher extrusion forces. Extrusion machine models with an extrusion tonnage of 1,800 tons (7inch) or more are often needed. For example, the aluminum profiles for the glass curtain walls of large commercial buildings may require aluminum extrusion machines with an extrusion tonnage of 3,000 tons or even larger to ensure that the profiles can be successfully extruded and meet the corresponding strength and accuracy standards.
1.3 For Industrial Aluminum Profiles:
Profiles for Mechanical Components: When producing aluminum profiles for small support structures and connectors used in mechanical equipment, strict requirements are imposed on dimensional accuracy, mechanical properties, and the uniformity of the internal structure. Depending on the specific dimensions and the complexity of the shape, extrusion machine models with an extrusion tonnage ranging from 800 to 2,500 tons can be selected. For example, high-precision aluminum profile connectors on some automated equipment are probably produced using an extrusion machine with an extrusion tonnage of around 1,450 tons (6inch) to ensure product quality.
1.4 For aluminum Profiles for Automobile Components: In the automotive industry, aluminum profiles such as car seat frames and anti-collision beams not only need to meet certain strength and toughness requirements but also have high expectations for shape accuracy and lightweight design. Usually, aluminum extrusion machine models with an extrusion tonnage ranging from 1,450 to 3,500 tons are selected to ensure the production of high-quality aluminum profiles that meet automotive safety and performance standards.
1.5 For aluminum Profiles for Electronic Equipment Enclosures: This type of aluminum profile focuses on appearance quality and dimensional accuracy, and generally has a thin wall thickness. Aluminum extrusion machine models with an extrusion tonnage ranging from 600 to 1,250 tons are often selected. This can ensure good appearance and accuracy while avoiding surface damage and other quality problems caused by excessive extrusion forces. For example, the aluminum enclosures of some tablets are probably produced using an extrusion machine with a tonnage of around 800 tons.
1.6 For Aluminum Tube Production:
Common Seamed Aluminum Tubes: If producing seamed aluminum tubes for general industrial or civilian use, such as some simple fluid transmission tubes, a single-action extrusion machine can be selected. The tonnage can be chosen between 600 and 1,800 tons depending on factors such as the diameter and wall thickness of the tube. For example, small indoor air-conditioning refrigerant transmission aluminum tubes can be produced using a single-action extrusion machine with a tonnage of around 1,000 tons.
Seamless Aluminum Tubes (including Thin-walled Seamless Tubes): For seamless aluminum tubes with high requirements in fields such as aerospace and high-pressure fluid transmission, especially thin-walled seamless tubes, the production is more difficult and requires a double-action extrusion machine with sufficient extrusion force. Aluminum extrusion machine models with an extrusion tonnage ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 tons or even higher are often needed to ensure accurate piercing and the extrusion of qualified seamless tubes. For example, the seamless aluminum tubes for fuel transmission in aerospace engines usually have to be produced using a double-action extrusion machine with a tonnage of over 4,000 tons.
Hollow Profiles (non-tube types): For the production of hollow aluminum profile structures, double-action extrusion machines are also mostly used. Depending on factors such as the size, wall thickness, and complexity of the hollow profiles, suitable models with a tonnage ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 tons can be selected to ensure that the hollow profiles that meet the design requirements can be successfully extruded through operations such as piercing.
 
2. Consideration of Aluminum Product Specification Factors
2.1 Size: The larger of overall external dimensions of the aluminum product, the greater the extrusion force required, and a larger-tonnage extrusion machine model should be selected accordingly. For example, an aluminum profile frame with larger length, width, and height dimensions requires significantly higher extrusion forces than small aluminum profile components, so a larger-tonnage extrusion machine needs to be selected to ensure its complete extrusion and forming.
2.2 Wall Thickness: Aluminum products with thicker wall thicknesses need to overcome greater deformation resistance during extrusion and thus require higher extrusion forces. Generally, as the wall thickness increases by a certain amount, the tonnage of the extrusion machine needs to be appropriately increased. For example, for an aluminum tube with an outer diameter of 50mm, a 1,200-ton extrusion machine may be sufficient for production when the wall thickness is 3mm, but when the wall thickness reaches 6mm, an extrusion machine with a tonnage of around 1,800 tons may be required.
2.3 Length Requirement: Although the aluminum extrusion machine itself doesn't have a particularly large direct limitation on the product length, if longer aluminum profiles or tubes are to be produced, it is necessary to consider the stroke of the extrusion machine and whether it can stably and continuously provide extrusion force to ensure the quality uniformity of the product over the entire length range. For long aluminum profiles, sometimes it is necessary to select an aluminum extrusion machine model with a long stroke and sufficient extrusion force or use processes such as multiple extrusions in combination to meet the length requirements.
 
3. Selection Based on Production Efficiency Requirements
3.1 Batch Production Requirements: If it is mass batch production, it is necessary to select an extrusion machine model with a relatively fast extrusion speed and a high degree of automation. This can produce more products in a unit of time to meet market supply needs. For example, some large aluminum profile production enterprises, facing a large number of orders for door and window profiles and curtain wall profiles in the construction industry, will choose extrusion machines with functions such as automatic feeding, quick extrusion die changing, and high-speed extrusion. For example, models with a higher number of extrusions per minute are selected to improve the overall production efficiency.
3.2 Customized Production Requirements: When producing customized aluminum products, that is, when the product types are diverse and the specifications change frequently, priority should be given to the flexibility of the aluminum extrusion machine and the convenience of die changing. Select a model that can quickly adjust parameters and easily change extrusion dies. Even if the extrusion speed of such an extrusion machine may not be particularly fast, it can quickly adapt to the production requirements of different products and reduce production preparation time, thereby improving the comprehensive production efficiency. For example, some enterprises that produce customized aluminum profile enclosures for electronic equipment and other products will choose extrusion machine models with a user-friendly operation interface and convenient die changing.
4. Selection Based on Quality and Accuracy Requirements
4.1 Dimensional Accuracy Requirements: For aluminum products with extremely high requirements for dimensional accuracy, such as aluminum profiles or tubes used in aerospace and precision instruments, it is necessary to select an extrusion machine model with high mechanical precision and a precise control system. Usually, such extrusion machines have excellent performance in aspects such as positioning accuracy and pressure control accuracy, which can control the dimensional deviation of the product within a very small range and ensure that the strict requirements of high-end application scenarios are met.
4.2 Surface Quality Requirements: If emphasis is placed on the surface quality of the product, such as aluminum profiles used for decoration and high-end electronic product enclosures, it is necessary to select an extrusion machine model that can ensure a smooth extrusion process, good contact between the mold and the aluminum material, and good control of defects such as scratches and abrasions on the surface of the profile. Often, such extrusion machines have good designs in aspects such as equipment vibration control and lubrication systems, which help to produce products with a smooth surface and high quality.
