       Every one known that, after extrusion, the die butt will be sheared and remelt. If remelt, it means the burning lost. So the butt should be the shorter the better. Except some special aluminum profiles like the buckle aluminum, most of aluminum profiles, the die butt can be shorten and make full use of extrusion. 
For the extrusion billet length, some machine looks like strong, but the Max. Length of billet is very short. When you want to extrude thicker profile, you will find you need to change more time because one section billet is not long enough. For example, one 1000MT aluminum extrusion, you want to produce wall thickness is 1mm aluminum profile. 5inch billet, 580mm length billet will produce 26m aluminum profile, for cutting two ends, then you can get 4 sections of 6m aluminum profile. But if you produce wall thickness 2mm profile, 580mm billet may produce 24m, after cut two ends, you can not get full 4 sections of 6m aluminum profile. If the machine can use 600mm, this problem will be resolved.
So for the die butt, the shorter is better, the extrusion billet length, the longer is better. It can increase the extrusion rate. This small details, if day in and day out, you have no idea how much cost can you save compared with your competitors.
