Do you sick of clean aluminium extrusion die remains (residual Aluminum ) ??

After extrusion, the dies cavities stuffed full of remains or residual aluminum and long butt. How to treatment it and how to clean it?

There are some topics of die cleaning at Aluminium Extrusion Professionals group at Linkedin.com. Currently there is no advanced technology which can replace NAOH solution used for cleaning residual Aluminum in extruded Die. Because caustic soda does a very good job to attack Aluminium not steel.

Now I would like to share the die remains treatment information from our Chinese client extrusion factory.

First, cut the die butt. If the die is small, use the sharp tool to cut the die butt by manual. If the die is large usually above 1800T aluminum extrusion machine, then consider using the machine of aluminum extrusion die butt cutter to cut the butt.

Secondly, before caustic soda boiling, they used the water cooling down the die, because if you boil the hot die, the die remains will be sticky. If you boil the cool die, the remains will become hard. It will be easy to drop off after caustic soda boiling.

Thirdly, if extrusion dies are from about 600T, 800T AND 1000T press, use the NaOH with water to boil the dies about 1 hour. After an hour, the die can be divided into two, if the screw holes of die are too much, then need to boil one more time. If the large dies, the caustic soda boiling time need to be longer, it depended on the loose situation about the remains.

At last, because the die and remains have little loose, use the equipment of aluminum extrusion die remains pressing out machine to press the remains from the die holes by hydraulic force.

Because the aluminum metal is valuable, the dies no need to boil too long time. It can recycle the aluminum remains if use the machine to press out the remains from the die, meanwhile, sell the NaOH water to chemical plant to make detergent, it not only can recycle the NaOH water, but also can protect the environment.
